数日前、Stanfordからスパム、もとい、宣伝emailがやってきた。1月からの冬学期社会人講座の勧誘である。
その中にsocial networkingをテーマにしたものが。
Throughout history, networks have emerged to support the social and economic aspects of human society. It is possible to study networks arising in the context of telecommunications, transportation, epidemiology, social networking, and the Internet. These networks vary widely in scope, in physical composition, and in the technologies they employ. Many researchers now believe that networks, despite such differences, share certain abstract properties. Knowledge of these properties can be used to understand and engineer networks more effectively. Relying on historical examples and the key insights of researchers in both natural and social sciences, we will study those properties and their consequences.
通信･交通・疫学・インターネット、そしてsocial networkingなど、全てのネットワークに共通する特徴を学ぶ、というもの。「お友達の輪の拡大サポート・ウェブビジネス」のsocial networkingがこのあたりの一部の人たちの間で流行っていると先日のエントリーで書いたが、Stanfordは世の流行に敏感であります。個人的には、かなり心惹かれるが、5回も講座に出るほどではないなぁ。。。一回に濃縮してエッセンスだけやってくれたら絶対行くのだが。
なお、これ以外の社会人講座、冬学期のクラスはStanford Continuing Studiesに。ただいま申し込み受付中。ダンスや写真から、ギリシャ悲劇、科学的文章の書き方や製薬開発のイロハまで、いろいろ楽しそうなのがあり、かつ、アメリカの大学にしては超お値打ちなので、近辺にお住まいの方は一度ご覧下さい。
無料の半日セミナーというのもいくつかあって、例えば、工学部長が語るWhat’s Hot in Engineering: A Look at the Next 25 Years など。アメリカはきっと他の大学もこんな感じだと思いますが、大学のそばに住めて、アー幸せ。
